Eating Kosher Festival in Petach Tikva, IsraelPetach Tikva's Answer to Tel Aviv's Taste of the City Extravaganza
The first ever Eating Kosher Food Festival runs in Petach Tikva near Tel Aviv in June 2008 promising a superb gastronomic experience and strict kosher standards.
Taste of the City Food Festival in Tel AvivThe 13th annual Taste of the City Tel Aviv food festival took place in May between Monday 26th and Thursday 29th. The festival, whose motto was "Come Hungry", is one of the largest food festivals in the world, with over half a million visitors. Every year at Taste of the City, Tel Aviv's top restaurants and dozens of food stalls offer gourmet take-away dishes at reduced prices. The festival also features music and entertainment. Yet, according to an article by Yoav Friedman in the 'Jewish World' column of Ynetnews, "If you don’t mix milk and meat and avoid pork or seafood, you probably skipped one, two, seven or 20 booths at the annual Tel Aviv food festival." Eating Kosher Food Festival in Petach TikvaThis of course is quite frustrating to any Jewish gourmand who wants to keep kosher. Let's not forget that kosher food is more than just an issue of how an animal is slaughtered: the term itself actually applies to a wide range of food which needs to be ritually acceptable to conform to Jewish dietary laws. This includes anything from ingredients derived from meat to never mixing meat with dairy or wine with grape juice, among others. Even using cooking utensils and machinery previously used for non-kosher food, is strictly forbidden under the guidelines. As a result, Eating Kosher -- Israel's first ever kosher gourmet festival -- is set to take place next week in Petach Tikva, a sleepy town just seven miles east of Tel Aviv. Eating Kosher runs from 6pm to 11pm in the Petach Tikva's large city park from Tuesday 17th to Thursday 19th June and aims to showcase just what a superb gastronomic experience kosher food can be. And where else can you get excellent kosher food, if not in Israel? At Eating Kosher, dozens of kosher restaurants will be creating special menu selections: a great excuse to enjoy tasty traditional Jewish recipes as well as sophisticated and innovative kosher food at its best. Visitors to the festival can be sure that all food has been prepared to the highest quality as well as to strict kosher standards. The Kosher food festival will also feature shows by Israeli performers, numerous attractions and a spectacular fireworks show. Petach Tikva means "Gateway of Hope". The town is just a short bus ride or drive away from Tel Aviv city centre. Entrance to the Eating Kosher festival is free and food prices will be popular. Sources:
